Insignia Fire TV Black Screen With Sound? Try Quick Fix!!!

Insignia Fire Edition TVs showing a Black Screen with sound? Wondering why your Insignia Fire TV shows a blank screen.

If so, fear not, this is a common issue with Fire TV edition Insignia TVs.

I’ve experienced it before and you are not alone, it is a common issue when your Insignia Fire TV has sound but no picture. I’ll explain why this happens and how to fix it at home.

Although we immediately link the Insignia Fire TV’s backlight problem to a hardware failure, this is not always the case, and there is still a high possibility that it was caused by a minor software issue or an internal settings conflict.

When the Insignia Fire TV shows a black or blank screen but still has sound, it mainly indicates that either the HDMI cable is faulty or the internal settings have become conflicted. To fix this, you should hard reset your TV and check the cables.

It usually fixes the issue and you can then use your TV again, but sometimes we don’t know how to fix it completely and that’s why I have created this detailed guide that will make the process easier.

Why My Insignia Fire TV Has Sound But No Picture?

On the Insignia Fire TV, when background flashes then blacks out but the audio sounds fine.

The main causes are software conflict and defective HDMI cable, although we cannot exclude the possibility of an internal display power supply failure, which is quite rare.

The hardware failure can only happen if there is a major power failure that damages the internal power board of the television.

However, as much as that sounds possible, it is extremely rare. Luckily, the following guide can help you determine if that is the case.

How To Fix Black Screen With Sound on Insignia Fire TV Edition?

In order to determine the fault location and fix it, I made this step-by-step guide.

When I faced this issue with my Insignia Fire TV model, I initially went with hit and trial with no success and later contacted support and searched forums until I was able to fix the issue.

  1. Check and Replug Cables Correctly
  2. Power Cycle
  3. Factory Reset

Check and Replug Cables Correctly

It is essential to ensure that your cables are not loosely connected or defective, otherwise, they will not be able to pass sufficient signals to function properly.

This includes HDMI cables if you use them, as well as your main power cable. This normally results in a completely blank, distorted, or flickering screen.

Therefore, before we can rule out this possibility, we need to disconnect all of the cables. After that, you will simply need to re-connect them as tightly as you can.

Also, Don’t just replug them straight, but inspect the entire cable and both ends to ensure there are no damages or faults.

Power Cycle

Despite the fact that this step may seem a little too simplistic to be effective, it is still important to take when dealing with problems like these.

Although you may have already done so, still restart your device. In general, restarting your device is a great way to give it some rest.

Remove the power cable from the main socket and wait for 4-5 minutes before plugging it back in and turning on the television.

This might resolve your Blank screen issue since the power cycle will erase any temporary settings that could be causing conflict and showing Blank Screen on Insignia TV.

Factory Reset

If the Insignia Fire TV has a conflict on software or internal settings, it can result in a Black Screen with no picture but sound, and to rule out a software or firmware issue you need to perform a Factory Reset.

This is the most common way to solve any glitch with the TV and it is also recommended by the official Amazon support. However, make sure you have followed all the steps before this carefully.

Also, Remember, Factory resetting your device removes all downloaded content, including in-app purchases.

To factory reset your Insignia Fire TV device using your remote:

  1. Remove expandable storage or any extra cables that have been plugged in, such as a sound bar or console.
  2. Then, hold the Back and the right side of the navigation circle together for 10 seconds.
  3. Now, The TV screen will offer the option of continuing the factory reset or canceling it.
  4. The device will automatically reset after several more seconds if you do not choose.

If you’re wondering how to choose an option on a blank screen, don’t worry, you just need to follow the steps and it will automatically choose after a few seconds.

Make sure you follow it correctly, and the TV will restart. If it fails to restart, something is missing during the process. Try again until it restarts.

Wrapping It Up

In almost all situations the above steps will resolve the issue when your Insignia TV has sound, but no picture or a black screen.

If you have followed the troubleshooting steps correctly and the problem persists, it is most likely an advanced issue with the power supply. Otherwise, there may be an issue with the backlit sensors.

Depending on the situation, you will either need to contact the Insignia Fire TV support or you will have to have a complete inspection of your TV.

    • Hey Robert, I am sorry but as I did suggest in the guide, I am afraid that if none of the steps work, you might need to contact official support or need to call a technician as in this case the possibility of having a fault in the backlit or internal board can not be ruled out.

      • I tried all your recommended steps to no avail. Holding a bright Flashlight to the screen does show a faint image. Is it possible that the i/o board is at fault or the t-com? How can I tell?

        • If with a flashlight test you see a faint image, it is possible that the T-con board is at fault, as the faint image with no brightness happens due to the improper power supply.

      • Our insignia 55” will turn on ok but at some point goes black with sound still going. I can see the images with a flashlight. I have not done a factory reset yet. Is it still possible that a factory reset would work? Or is the backlight likely bad?

        • Although a bad backlight issue can not be ruled out, it is quite rare, at first try to deep clean the TV via leaf blower or hair dryer and re-plug all cables one by one carefully and tightly after cleaning them. Lastly, perform a hard reset as that will clear all temporary glitches and a half or bad updates.
