Insignia Fire TV is produced and serviced by BestBuy and it has collaborated with Amazon by integrating Fire TV firmware and building upon Amazon’s fire TV software.

If you have used the Firestick before, it also faces the same issue of not being able to connect with wifi, and it always throws an error message that says “there was an error connecting to wifi”. The same issue happens on the Insignia Fire TV as well.

Since I have experience with network connections and wireless devices, I know that successfully setting up a wireless connection and connecting a device with Wi-Fi requires a successful handshake of password keys that both devices must authenticate in order to connect.

Yet, even when the password is correct, the connection is often not established due to either the device’s tailored software or the problematic wifi router connection.

Here are all possible reasons why your Insignia Fire TV is having WiFi issues and cannot connect to wifi:

  • TV software glitch.
  • An issue with Wifi router settings.
  • Corrupted Cache or stored data on TV’s network settings.
  • Incorrect password being used.

Now that we know the possible reasons why your Insignia Fire TV is not connecting to the Wifi router, let’s see what you need to do to resolve this problem.

How To Fix Insignia Fire TV Not Connecting to Wifi Issue?

Prior to anything else, you must realize that Wifi and Internet are two different things.

There’s a possibility that your device is connected to wifi and still does not receive internet, but it’s not the other way around, and if your device is receiving wireless internet then it has to be connected to the wifi network.

While any device can connect to wifi if you have an active router and it is working, in order to access the internet over wifi your wifi router must have an active internet connection.

Therefore, it’s clear and you should check if your Insignia Fire TV isn’t connecting to the WiFi or not connecting to the Internet despite being connected to the WiFi.

Usually, a corrupted network setting on your Insignia Fire TV or router is what causes the issue with Wifi, which means it can’t connect to the wireless network. In that case, you need to reset your Wifi router and TV in order to solve it.

Here are the instructions so you can connect your Insignia Fire TV to wifi and fix any wifi issues you may be having.

  • Power Cycle Insignia Fire TV and Wifi Router
  • Hard Reset your Wifi router
  • Try using WPS to connect with Wifi
  • Restore settings on your TV to factory default

Power Cycle Insignia Fire TV and Wifi Router

If your TV’s settings have a minor glitch, it may not be able to connect to the Wi-Fi router and even if it does connect, it will keep disconnecting.

To clear out any temporary data that has been stored inside the router and TV settings, power cycle the TV as well as the Wifi router.

Power cycling doesn’t mean quickly turning it off and on, but rather unplugging the cable after 3-4 minutes in order to clear out temporary settings.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Turn off your Insignia Fire TV.
  • Remove the power cable from TV and Router.
  • Wait for 3-4 minutes before plugging it back.
  • After plugging, turn on the TV and try to connect it with the Wifi router.

If you follow these steps, you will be able to connect your Wifi router to your Insignia Fire TV, and you should make sure you are using the correct wireless password.

In the event that the above steps didn’t solve the issue, proceed to the next solution.

Hard Reset your Wifi router

Occasionally, either because you forgot the password or because the internal settings of your router are conflicted the issue with connecting your TV to wifi arises, and you need to reset the router in order to clear out any conflict.

In order to hard reset a router, you can either follow the instructions that come with its user manual or use a universal solution by taking a pin and pressing it inside the reset pinhole and holding it for roughly 15-20 seconds.

The Wifi router name and password will be changed to default once this is done, and you can check them on the router’s backside in order to get your Insignia Fire TV connected to the wifi network.

Try using WPS to connect with Wifi

In case you’re having trouble connecting your Insignia Fire TV to wifi even after entering the correct password, you can get it connected by using the WPS button on your router.

WPS is a standard feature on all routers and is commonly used for connecting display-less devices such as wireless printers when we cannot manually enter the WiFi password on them.

Press the WPS button first and then initiate the connection from your TV. Remember timing plays a crucial role and you might need to try it a couple of times to get connected.

Restore Insignia TV to Factory Settings

A power cycle may not clear out all stored settings as the power cycle clears only temporarily stored data, you need to clear out any troublesome settings by manually clearing the cache and stored data on your Insignia Fire TV before connecting it to wifi.

Here’s how you can clear your Fire TV edition’s cache and stored data:

  • On the remote control of your Insignia Fire TV, press the home button.
  • Choose Settings > My Fire TV from the menu.
  • Choose Reset to Factory Defaults.
  • Wait for a few minutes to get it completed.

It is important to remember that resetting the settings will wipe out all the cache and stored data on your Insignia Fire TV and create a new one. Only If none of the above solutions are successful, I would recommend doing this step.

  1. Was concerned as I just bought fire tv, but I want simple Just turn on Don’t want internet just wifi and watch tv ty for help

  2. My brand new insignia tv was working fine and connected to WiFi. All of the sudden, the next day I went to turn it on and it would no longer connect. It says signal strength is good and then ‘connected with problems’. I tried rebooting my router, tv, and did a hard reset and unplugged as well. My internet is working fine and I could need a network extender if the problem persists. Every other device is working fine. As I am reading through forums, I’m seeing this is a common problem, particularly with the insignia TVs when connecting to WiFi. Any suggestions to fix this or should we just return the tv?

    • Hey, please do not worry, it’s not a big issue, and the error message you are seeing “connected with problems” happens due to a conflicted IP address and weak security password of your wifi router.
You can do a proper reboot of your router by unplugging it for about 3-4 minutes and after that change your wifi security to a more complex one.
Once you do this the notification will go away and you won’t face any issue.

  3. I have the same problem with my Insignia TV. It will be connected to the internet via WiFi when I first turn on the TV, but disconnect a few minutes later. It does this on a daily basis and it can’t stay connected. I’ve tried everything like power cycling the router and TV multiple times as well as reset to factory settings. Nothing has worked. I was thinking about getting a really long Ethernet cable and connecting to the internet that way. Do you think that will fix the problem?

    • Hey Hamysolo, the issue which you have explained might not be able to get fixed with Ethernet cable as that will only provide the better connection stability, but in your case, I would suggest doing a deep clean of your TV with a leaf blower or hair dryer and plugging all cables one by one carefully and tightly after cleaning them all.
